Facebook allowed to manage accounts posthumously

Facebook will now let you manage what happens to your account after you die

Facebook allows selection of the person who manages your account after death!

The biggest social network Facebook has changed the attitude of the world to the accounts of dead people: Now users can decide for themselves what will happen with accounts after their death, writes The Wall Street Journal. Facebook gives account holders to appoint a manager in case of death (legacy contact), and this person receives limited account management without the ability to edit old posts or photos or complete removal of the account.

Alternatively, the user can instruct the social network to completely remove all information about themself posthumously. In cases of data of deceased persons social networks and other Internet services have a hard time: they have to protect the confidentiality of personal data of the deceased and at the same time respond to the demands of friends and relatives.

Until today, Facebook will automatically froze the accounts of those users whose death it became known, the procedure is called memorialization: the accumulated content becomes unavailable for external calls. However, their legal heirs often protested against this decision, wanting to get access to records or self-correct corresponding profile.

The company will continue to do so with those users who have not expressed any wish. Privacy settings for posts and photos in accounts remain unchanged, while they do not display advertisements. According to Facebook, has already undergone such an operation, hundreds of thousands of accounts. In the US, a new option will take effect from Thursday, then the proposal will be extended to other countries.
