cute cat from sick healthy recovery

See this picture of an adorable kitten? Well, just one month earlier, this kitten was a sorry sight – she was very sick and her eyes were closed shut with an infection. Fortunately, she was found by someone kind who gave her the food and tender loving care she so desperately needed, and in the space of just one month, she makes an amazing recovery from a sick little animal to a beautiful healthy kitten! And it’s all captured in alovely, heartwarming video.

The video, shows the true story of a sick kitten with both eyes practically shut closed with severe conjunctivitis and how the person who found her nurses her back to health and eventually finds a new home for her over a one month period. The kitten’s transformation as she regains her health is truly amazing, and you can hardly believe that it’s the same kitten! We have the video for you below, and because the video contains many narrative comments in Japanese following the kitten’s progress, we’ve provided a translation of the comments as well, which we hope will add to your enjoyment of the video.

Narrative Comments (English Translation)

*On the night of October 22, I found a kitten who was practically blind.
*Her eyes were closed shut with conjunctivitis.
*She seems upset and hisses at people repeatedly – a bit dangerous.
*Day 2 – I ended up staying by her side the previous night.
*In the middle of the night, she seemed lonely and eager for attention. I gave her a bath and she settled down.
*The eye infection is worse than first thought. Worried whether her eyesight will be restored.
*I wash and clean her eyes with gauze dipped in warm water.
*She doesn’t seem interested in kitten milk.
*She obviously can’t see, so she can’t and doesn’t move. The poor thing.
*Her nose is stuffed too and she seems to have difficulty breathing. Really, the poor thing!
*She went to the toilet on her own when I placed her on some sheets of newspaper. She seems quite smart.
*Day 3 – After repeated cleaning around the eyes with gauze, she seems able to see light.
*But she’s still not moving much.
*It appears she likes staying in the corner since she can’t see very well.
*The children have built her a cardboard house.
*She’s still not eating and looks weak.
*I force her to have some kitten milk using a dropper in the morning and night.
*Still Day 3 – As it was a Monday, I took her to the vet.
*Thank goodness, the infection is apparently not too serious.
*The kitten is probably about 1 month old, and weighs 400g (14 oz).
*Day 4 – She’s now using kitty litter instead of newspaper.
*She started eating canned kitten food last night.
*Yeay! She pooped!
*She’s starting to eat well now.
*Her eyes are opening a little bit.
*She’s gotten her appetite back. It looks like she’ll be OK.
*She can even go to the toilet by herself.
*She’s starting to act like a kitten now.
*Her eyes still look painful, though.
*Eat up, little cat, and keep your strength up!
*She’s now going out on to the veranda …
*… and even sitting on an iPad despite looking very sleepy!
*Yes, cat, eat some more!
*Day 5 – It’s night-time and she’s now starting to play on her own.
*Day 6 – She’s still not strong enough to get off the bed by herself.
*Come on, kitten, get well quickly and show us what a pretty little cat you are.
*It’s going to be hard finding you a new home if you don’t start looking better.
*She’s eating and grooming herself.
*She’s playing around with some energy, too!
*We’d been calling her just “cat” (“neko” in Japanese)…
*… but now we’re starting to call her “Niko”.
*The ointment and antibiotics we’ve been giving her seem to be working.
*Her nose is completely better, and she now has a very big appetite.
*I’m starting to wish we could keep her, but it’s just not possible to keep a cat at our home.
*We already have 2 dogs that we keep downstairs.
*We really need to get her better and find her a new home.
*Day 10 – She’s looking so much better.
*But it still may be a bit early to take photos for interested potential owners.
*2 weeks since we took the kitten in, and her eye infection really has cleared up.
*At first, I thought she may never get better.
*I’m so glad she’s recovered.
*I’m going to have to find her a new owner soon, or I’ll get too attached.
*She’s actually turning out to be a really pretty girl, so we’ll probably be able to find her a new home if we post information on the internet.
*I do hope we’ll be able to find her a nice home.
*Day 15 – Just when we were about to post an ad, an old school friend I hadn’t been in touch with for a while contacted me.
*We ended up speaking about the kitten, and everything fell into place after that.
*By the next day, my friend and his wife let us know that they would like to adopt the cat into their home.
*They apparently lost one of their cats last year and had been lonely with their remaining American Shorthair cat.
*They were thinking about getting a new cat by the end of the year, and they had just started looking.
*What’s more, they had been looking for a cat exactly like Niko – a cute, active Japanese cat.
*We were delighted, as we hoped we could give Niko to an experienced cat owner.
*And who better than someone I know personally?
*This was an ideal solution all around.
*No one in our family thought Niko would turn into such a beauty in just one month!
*We had so much fun while she was with us.
*Niko put a smile on everyone’s face.
*Some people may say that an abandoned cat should be left alone, that it’s natural selection in a way.
*But I’m really glad I found her that night.
*She helped teach the children what it means to own a pet, the responsibility it entails.
*Also the importance of spaying and neutering cats and dogs.
*It’s quite possible that she gave us more than we gave her.
*On November 20, Niko left, healthy and sound, to join her new family.

So, that’s the story of Niko, the kitten who made a miraculous recovery. This video apparently was made and edited for Niko’s new owner, but we’re certainly glad MrJin650 shared it with all of us. The video is full of love, and we know that the world needs as much of that as possible!
