#1 Wolf Dog

While it is bred as a pet, it’s important to note that these are very large, very strong dogs. This isn’t the kind of pet you buy if you’ve never owned a dog before. Experience is needed. Typically, they are not prone to attack but they are very strong willed. If you have the experience though (and don’t own other, smaller animals), definitely go for it.

 #2 Toyger

This breed’s creator, Judy Sugden, believed the best way to inspire people to care more about the conversion of tigers was to bring two species together. The toyger is a breed of domestic cat, resulting from the breeding of the Bengal and shorthaired Tabby cat. Everything about it screams “toy tiger!”

#3 Wolphin

A cross between a false killer whale and an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, wholphins are hybrids that have been reported to exist only in the wild. There are currently two in captivity, both of which can be seen at Sea Life Park in Hawaii. The wholphin's size, color and shape are intermediate between the parent species.

#4 Iron Age Pig

The Iron Age pig is a hybrid between a wild boar and a domestic Tamworth pig meant to recreate the type of pig represented by prehistoric art works of the Iron Age. Generally, they are only raised in Europe for a specialty meat market, and in keeping with their heritage are generally more aggressive and harder to handle than pure domestic pigs.

#5 Grolar Bear

As fascinating as this hybrid is, grizzly bears and polar bears have been known to couple up in the wild in the past. However, most known cases of Grolar Bears in existence have come into this world in captivity giving us partial credit for their discovery. Despite records of at least three sitings, Grolar Bears are still very similar to their parents, often having physical traits of both the grizzly and the polar bear.

#6 Blood Parrots

Unusually bright orange with a red body and deformed swim bladders, the Blood Parrot is thought to have been bred from a severum and red devil cichlid or possibly from a midas cichlid and a redhead cichlid. Birthed in Taiwan, many are against such unusual hybrids and there have been moves to remove these fish from the market and from other pet stores.

#7 Cama

Bred as a pet, the cama is smaller to and friendlier than the infamously ill-tempered camel. Camas are kept as pets in many parts of the world and are often referred to as terrific companions by their owners. And, of course it doesn’t hurt that these little guys have a cute radar over the roof.

#8 Dzo

Next, we have a hybrid of a yak and domestic cattle (usually a cow), which is both stronger and larger than its parent. The word Dzo refers to a male and for the female, Dzomo is used. Dzo is often used as a ‘pack animal’, for transporting heavy goods high up in the mountains. Please tell me where I can find one of these.

#9 Savannah Cat

The Savannah Cat is a loyal and affectionate companion that has a mannerism similar to that of a dog. It’s striking appearance and markings makes it an appealing pet for cat lovers but its personality is really what earns it so many fans. Who doesn’t love a loyal pet? It’s perhaps one of the largest breeds of domesticated cats and is a beautiful cat-breed of the African serval wild cat and domestic cat.

#10 Hybrid Pheasant

Hybrid pheasants, on the other hand, aren't as easy to produce as hybrid ducks. They’re the cross between the Golden and Amherst Pheasant. And although their nature isn’t as interesting as the others, boy do they have a demanding demeanor. Mixes of blues, greens, yellows, and even some red make this bird demand attention. So it should.

#11 Female Hybrid Mallard

Here’s one you may have seen before, it’s a cross between the Northern Pintail duck and the traditional Mallard. This beautifully feathered creature may not seem all that, but we've got to admit it looks awesome!

#12 Beefalo

Beefalo are the fertile offspring of domestic cattle and American bison. Aiming to steer your eye towards beef production, a recent USDA study showed beefalo meat, like bison meat, actually tended to be lower in fat and cholesterol. They are also thought to produce less damage to rangeland than cattle. Interesting nonetheless.

#13 Zebroid

If this isn’t the most adorable animal out there, I don’t know what is. The zebroid may have the characteristic black and white stripes its paternal zebra wears, but it still maintains many of the physical attributes of the maternal donkey. Although they can be difficult to train, they’re often every bit as useful as their euquine mothers. It’s amazing though, Zebras have been known to procreate with all sorts of other animals including the horse (the “zorse”) and even Shetland ponies (the “zetland”).

#14 Leopon

Put a male leopard and a lioness in a room together and you’ll typically see that leopons have the head of lion and the body of leopard, but in any case are among some of the most fascinating creatures. Although they are unlikely to occur in the wild, they have been bred in zoos in Japan, Germany, and Italy.

#15 Liger

Ligers are the cross of a male lion and a female tiger, and they are the largest of all living cats and felines. In fact, some female ligers alone can grow to 10 feet in length and weigh more than 700 pounds. They enjoy swimming, which is a characteristic of tigers, and are very sociable like lions. However, ligers exist only in captivity because the habitats of the parental species do not overlap in the wild.
